Keeping P drivers safe on our roads

P Drivers Project Celebrates 1st Anniversary – 18 October 2012

The $10 million P Drivers Project, one of the world’s largest and most detailed young driver initiatives, celebrated its one year anniversary today.

Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Infrastructure and Transport Catherine King and Victorian Minister for Roads Terry Mulder, announced the milestone and encouraged newly licensed P Drivers, their families, friends and neighbours to get involved.

“The P Drivers Project aims to recruit 28,000 newly licensed drivers aged between 17-22 in Victoria and New South Wales, so we’re almost halfway there with over 13,000 in the last year, however, we still need more people to register for the program,” Ms King said.

“It’s important that we do everything we can to keep our most vulnerable drivers safe on our roads.”

Victorian Minister for Roads Terry Mulder said the program educates participants on common behaviours of young drivers that lead to serious injury or fatal crashes, including following distance, speed management, gap selection, hazard recognition and response.

The P Drivers Project is a partnership of the Victorian Government through VicRoads and the Transport Accident Commission, the New South Wales Government through Transport for NSW, the Australian Government through the Department of Infrastructure and Transport, Royal Automobile Club Victoria (RACV), NRMA Insurance and the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI).

IBSA met the challenge of this project with an integrated, advanced solution designed for the unique public safety needs of federal, state and government agencies. Effective collaboration between participants was at the core of project success. In contrast to projects that recently came under the Victorian Ombudsman’s spotlight, IBSA applied strict governance controls which managed risk and ensured compliance. This enabled them to focus on delivering value and measuring performance. IBSA are a member of the eServices Panel in Victoria.
