IOOF – Investment & Superannuation Portal

Work performed

Our client is an Australian financial services provider, specialising in investment and superannuation management and administration.  Their mission is to deliver simple investment solutions for investors, to create rewarding investment partnerships with advisers, and to deliver personal and efficient customer service to both. 

Over the years they have transitioned from a mutual society into a specialist funds management business, and are proud of their strong history of providing a solid and secure financial future for our clients.    The Holding Company was listed on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) in 2003, and has approximately 30,000 shareholders. At the time of the project, the group managed and administered over $32.8 billion for their clients and employed around 400 staff.

In early 2008 our client identified a niche market segment in fulfilling the needs of ‘Generation Y’ for managed funds and superannuation. The channel to market was to be a targeted online portal. 

IBSA was engaged from functional requirements, technical requirements, site development, testing and ongoing hosting and support.

Complexity

IOOF needed to address several critical challenges such as:

  • The high rate of churn amongst younger investors
  • New government legislation introducing the option to allow the use of superannuation funds for the purchase of a first home.
  • The financial overhead of providing advice to investors with low fund balance

The project involved:

  • Onsite deployment of an solutions architect to initaite the first stages of the project
  • Workshops with the client to assist in the determination of the client business requirements enabling the selection of an appropriate CMS.
  • Identifying the target demographic audience.
  • Development of a unique website to engender a community for younger investors so as to foster increased loyalty to the fund by providing education and non-financial advice.
  • Embedding online tools and calculators
  • Providing a one-stop shop interface for all their superannuation transaction and reporting requirements.

Results

The development was completed in record time with the brand recently launched on the Australian personal investment landscape. Since that time the fund has attracted a significant increase in new accounts which have been directly attributable to the launch of the Individuum website.
